Arise is a collection of short stories, poetry and a play that chronicles Cassandra’s experiences and the experiences of those around her.
Key themes include gender based violence, personal growth and empowerment, love, desire, inter-racial relationships, depression and the personal effect of Covid-19.
About the author
Cassandra Reddy grew up in Durban, South Africa, and is a Product manager and business coach. She began writing in her early teens and won the Gandhi Luthuli National Essay competition and SAHRC Poetry Competition at the age of 15.
While pursuing various professional passions, she continued to write and believes that writing is a powerful tool for personal and social transformation. She holds a BSc in Actuarial Science from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Certificate in Creative Process from Vega.
She wants to live in a world where women feel equally entitled to pleasure, rest and independent identity. Cassandra lives in Johannesburg with her daughters.
