Felix Garise – The Grass Suffers

Published by – Beyond The Vale Publishing

Published date – August 2024

Following on from May 2023’s release – When Elephants Fight, Felix is back with his second book “The Grass Suffers” set in Zimbabwe and the Congo and detailing some of Zimbabwe’s military campaigns in the Congo war from 1998.

Zimbabwean independence from Britain happened in 1980. The masses are promised they would have freedom and the right to vote, however, they are told by the powers that be who to vote for … or else.

1998 and less than 20 years after the fight for independence from colonial rule, Zimbabwe finds itself at war once more.

This war wasn’t fought for independence, freedom or votes, the motives instead were clouded in rumour, economic gain and ego. This war is in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Many Zimbabwean soldiers suffered in this unfamiliar territory.

“I was born in a time when there was racial discrimination, but the judge’s gavel was not the butt of an AK automatic rifle…

It was before our government emphasized their policies with a burst of gunfire.”

A story of power and war, diamonds and corruption and when the ordinary people of Zimbabwe get caught in the middle, it’s not just the grass that suffers … it’s humanity.
